Olbia — or more precisely its Costa Smeralda airport (OLB) — is the exclusive gateway to the Costa Smeralda, the most luxurious shoreline in the Mediterranean. Founded by the Aga Khan IV in the 1960s, the Costa Smeralda (40 km of coastline between Olbia and Santa Teresa Gallura) is a global UHNWI reference destination: Porto Cervo is home to the largest superyachts in the Mediterranean (more than 100 vessels exceeding 50 metres in August), private villas valued at €50–200 million, and the most exclusive beach clubs and restaurants in Italy. By jet, Olbia is 2h20 from Paris and 1 hour from Milan.
flight_takeoffBook a flightOlbia airport (OLB) is one of the highest-density private jet airports in the Mediterranean in July–August — rivalling Nice and Ibiza for the number of aircraft handled per day. Superyacht owners arrive by jet, take a tender to their vessel moored in the Straits of Bonifacio or at Porto Cervo, and disappear offshore for weeks. Sardinia offers a preserved natural landscape: the Sette Fratelli forest, the Gulf of Orosei with its sea caves, and the nuraghe (Bronze Age stone towers) scattered across the island.
Sardinian gastronomy is one of the most distinctive in Italy — radically different from mainland cuisine: porceddu (spit-roasted suckling pig), bottarga di muggine (dried mullet roe, “the truffle of the sea”), pecorino sardo cheese, carasau bread, and Cannonau di Sardegna wines (local Grenache, highly concentrated). The restaurant Phi Beach in Porto Cervo is the absolute benchmark for prestige dining in Sardinia.

All your questions about private jets to Olbia
Between £8,500 and £17,000 one way, a 2h20 flight. In July–August, prices reach £20,000–£30,000 due to total airport saturation at OLB — among the most expensive slots in the Mediterranean in high season. Book your slots 8–12 weeks in advance for July–August. Return empty legs (Sunday evening, Monday morning) can be significantly cheaper.
Porto Cervo (Yacht Club Costa Smeralda) stands alongside Monaco and Saint-Tropez as one of the three most exclusive marinas in the Mediterranean. In August it welcomes some of the largest superyachts in the world (100 m+). The YCCS regattas (Rolex Cup, One Ocean, Swan Cup) attract a high-profile international clientele every autumn.
The Gulf of Orosei (east coast of Sardinia, 2h by road from OLB) is home to Italy's most spectacular sea caves — Grotta del Bue Marino, Cala Luna, Cala Goloritzé (UNESCO heritage). Access is by boat only from Cala Gonone or Santa Maria Navarrese. A helicopter from OLB overflies the coast in 25 minutes and lands at the foot of the limestone cliffs.
OLB is one of the most congested airports in the Mediterranean in July–August. Slots are allocated by ENAC (the Italian aviation authority) and are very limited. Outside the nocturnal closure hours (10 pm–6 am), exemptions are possible but must be requested weeks in advance. Your operator will manage these constraints — plan ahead without fail.
Nice (NCE) is 1h05 from OLB, Monaco 1h15 (via Nice by light jet or directly by helicopter). This Riviera–Sardinia route is one of the most frequented in the Mediterranean in summer for villa and yacht owners who cruise between the two coastlines. Shared charter jet shuttle services exist on this route.
Porto Cervo accommodates superyachts up to 120 metres in its main marina. The cost of a berth in high season (August) for a 50 m yacht is €3,000–€6,000 per day. For vessels over 100 m, berths H and K require annual reservations managed by the YCCS (Yacht Club Costa Smeralda) — they are often booked months, even years, in advance.
