The Embraer Legacy 500 is the most advanced aircraft in the Legacy range. Its 9-metre cabin with lie-flat seats, fly-by-wire controls and 5,560 km range make it a direct competitor to heavy jets.
The Embraer Legacy 500 is the flagship of Embraer’s super-midsize range: the longest cabin in its category (9.14 m), fly-by-wire flight controls inherited from the E-Jets, and a 5,560 km range covering Europe, the Middle East and sub-Saharan Africa. Capable of carrying 12 passengers — a record in the segment — it is often described as a “small heavy”: the performance of a heavy jet in a super-midsize fuselage.
The Legacy 500 cabin is its signature: 9.14 m in length, 2.08 m wide and 1.83 m high allowing stand-up throughout. 12 passengers in full-grain leather Poltrona Frau seats, fully flat. Two lounge areas separated by an optional partition create a flying-office atmosphere. The 4.5 m³ hold, accessible in flight, can accommodate several sets of skis or a full set of golf equipment.
With 5,560 km of range and a cruise speed of 863 km/h, the Legacy 500 reaches Dubai from Paris non-stop, or New York from the Azores. Its minimum runway of 1,134 m is remarkably short for an aircraft in this category, opening Alpine destinations such as Courchevel or Lugano. Empty legs are regular with 30 to 45% discounts.

Frequently asked questions about the Embraer Legacy 500
The Legacy 500 charters for between €11,000 and €18,000 for a one-way European flight. Routes to the Middle East or Africa reach €20,000 to €32,000. Its positioning at the top of the super-midsize segment is reflected in pricing, close to that of entry-level heavy jets. Empty legs offer 30 to 45% discounts on routes where operators are repositioning their aircraft.
The Legacy 500 is officially classified as super-midsize, but its characteristics bring it close to heavy jets. Its 9.14 m cabin is longer than the Challenger 350 (7.12 m) and the Gulfstream G200 (7.17 m). Its 12-passenger capacity exceeds all its direct competitors (10 maximum for others). Its 5,560 km range is at the low end of the heavy jet bracket. Embraer itself calls it 'the super-midsize that defies categories' in its marketing materials.
The Legacy 500 can accommodate up to 12 passengers, more than any other super-midsize. The standard configuration is 10 passengers distributed across two zones. The Poltrona Frau full-grain leather seats are fully flat for rest. The optional dividing partition allows two private spaces to be created. The 4.5 m³ hold is accessible in flight, allowing retrieval of luggage and items during the journey.
The Legacy 500 has a range of 5,560 km. It can connect non-stop: Paris to Dubai (5,200 km), Paris to Riyadh (4,700 km), Paris to Nairobi (6,300 km with a stop), or all of Europe to all of sub-Saharan Africa with a single stop. Its range is less than the Challenger 350 (6,482 km) but greater than midsizes. For Europe–Gulf and Europe–Africa routes, it is often the operator's first choice.
Yes — with a minimum runway of 1,134 m, the Legacy 500 is one of the few super-midsize aircraft capable of operating on small Alpine runways. It serves Courchevel (1,320 m), Lugano (1,605 m), Cannes-Mandelieu (1,760 m) and Sion (1,900 m). This is a rare feature in its category: the Challenger 350 requires 1,490 m, and most heavy jets considerably more. For clients combining Alpine resorts and long-haul destinations, this is a decisive operational advantage.
These two super-midsizes are the most popular on the market. The Challenger 350 is wider (2.18 m vs 2.08 m) and has a greater range (6,482 vs 5,560 km). On the other hand, the Legacy 500 has a longer cabin (9.14 m vs 7.12 m) and greater capacity (12 vs 10 passengers). Both have similar pricing. The choice is often made on priorities: range and width (Challenger 350) or cabin length and passenger capacity (Legacy 500).
