Verbier is Switzerland's most international and most fashionable resort — the season draws Hollywood celebrities, London bankers (there are more British nationals in Verbier than in some UK towns) and European aristocracy. Chalets in the Médran quarter sell at prices comparable to Monaco. The 4 Vallées domain (410 km) is the largest in Switzerland.
SIR is operational year-round, but alpine conditions (fog, low cloud, runway snow) can cause short closures. The runway is treated and ILS instruments allow landings in poor weather. In the event of a closure, Geneva GVA is the fallback, with a road transfer (2h–2h30 to Verbier). Your operator always plans for this scenario.
Crans-Montana (2 hours from SIR by road) is more family-friendly, with a sunny plateau, an 18-hole golf course and panoramic views of the 4,000 m peaks. The atmosphere is quieter than Verbier — ideal for families with young children or parents who ski little. In summer, the Crans-Montana golf course hosts the European Masters on its stunning layout.
Sion is at the heart of the Valais vineyard — the caves of Vétroz, Chamoson and Conthey are 15–30 minutes from the airport. The estates of Jean-René Germanier (Balavaud, Amigne de Vétroz), Denis Mercier and Cave du Rhodan offer private tastings by appointment. The Amigne de Vétroz (indigenous white grape, off-dry) and Cornalin (powerful mountain red) are the local gems.
Depart Le Bourget Friday 4pm, arrive SIR 5.20pm, driver to Verbier (45 min), check in at the W Verbier or a private chalet. Saturday and Sunday skiing in the 4 Vallées.
