Lugano is the capital of Ticino — the Italian-speaking canton of Switzerland — and a lakeside gem with a uniquely Mediterranean character. Nestled between Lake Lugano and the peaks of Monte San Salvatore and Monte Brè, with its palms, laurels and Belle Époque villas, Lugano is nicknamed the “Monaco of Switzerland”. Lugano-Agno Airport (LUZ) welcomes light jets and turboprops, 10 minutes from the Lungolago and the banking district. By jet, Lugano is 1h20 from Paris and 40 minutes from Milan.
flight_takeoffBook a flightLugano is Switzerland’s third financial centre after Zurich and Geneva — with a concentration of private banks of Italian tradition (BSI, PKB, Banca dello Stato del Cantone Ticino) and family offices managing the fortunes of the great families of northern Italy who have chosen to domicile in Switzerland. The private jet clientele consists of Lombard and Piedmontese entrepreneurs whose holding companies are based in Lugano, Italian artists and intellectuals resident in Ticino, and cultural travellers drawn by the MASI Lugano (Museum of Art of Italian Switzerland) and the Locarno Film Festival (August).
Ticino offers an unrivalled quality of life: hiking trails above the lake, the stone villages of the Valle Verzasca (some of the purest turquoise waters in Europe), Ticino gastronomy (risotto, polenta, brasato, Merlot di Ticino wines) and the cultural towns of Bellinzona (three UNESCO castles) and Locarno (film festival on the Piazza Grande).

All your questions about private jets to Lugano
Lugano-Agno Airport (LUZ) has a short 1,400 m runway — it welcomes light jets (Phenom 100/300E, Citation CJ3/CJ4), turboprops (PC-12, King Air) and helicopters. Midsize jets (Citation XLS+) are generally too heavy for the short runway. For larger groups or midsize jets, Milan Linate (LIN, 40 min by road) is the usual fallback.
Between £5,500 and £11,000 one way, flight time 1h20. The alternative via Milan (LIN) by car takes 1 hour — sometimes chosen if LUZ is closed due to weather or the aircraft is too large. Lugano's financial residents frequently make this return trip to Paris and Geneva.
Valle Verzasca (Locarno, 30 min from LUZ) is known for its supernaturally turquoise waters and for the Verzasca Dam — made famous by James Bond's bungee jump in GoldenEye. The natural pools of the Verzasca River (swimming in rock basins) are an incomparable attraction for travellers seeking pristine nature less than an hour from a financial city.
Nice (NCE) is 1h10 from LUZ by light jet. This Lugano–Nice connection is very busy in summer for Ticino residents with properties on the French Riviera, and in winter for business trips by Ticino bankers to Monaco and Cannes (MIPIM, MAPIC). The Mediterranean feel of Lugano makes it a natural transition to the Côte d'Azur.
Locarno (30 min from LUZ) hosts in August one of the world's oldest and most prestigious film festivals — the Locarno Film Festival (founded in 1946), with its spectacular outdoor screening on the Piazza Grande (8,000 seats under open skies). Professional accreditations and gala evening invitations are managed by the festival foundation.
For Lombard and Piedmontese entrepreneurs whose assets are structured in a Swiss holding company, Lugano is the ideal base — 40 minutes from Milan Linate by car, with Swiss taxation, Swiss confidentiality and lakeside quality of life. Ticino speaks Italian, eats Italian and lives to the rhythms of northern Italy — but with Swiss order.
